Red Bull Untapped Trophy 2022

This sculpture has been created to reward the winner of the Red Bull Untapped tournament.

Red Bull Untapped is an event carried out in partnership with Wizards of the Coast around a benchmark card game to collect as well: Magic the Gathering.

For this occasion, we were entrusted with sculpting one of the emblematic characters of the game: the legendary Ajani.

With his ample cape and two wide shoulder pads, this chimerical albino Leonin is a brave warrior, powerful and wise, fierce and loyal with a keen sense of justice. Marked by the wars, he wears on his face a deep gash on the left eye from which he will keep the scar.

Magnifying Ajani while highlighting the power of the bestial and warrior side that characterizes him was one of the challenges of this achievement.

With these two large shoulder pads, Ajani looks like a gladiator from an ancient era. To remain faithful to the spirit of the character, we have therefore proposed to put him in the spotlight by relying on certain codes of ancient statues.

In the same way that the Greeks had to celebrate their important characters, war heroes or mythological figures, we used the bust as a model of sculptural representation.

Instead of a Greek god in the spotlight, it’s a supernatural hero from the fantastic mythology of the game Magic.

On its pedestal, the bust of Ajani seems to come alive.

The effects of bubbling fabrics that emanate from the base are comparable to the flame that would spring from a torch. His cape gradually turns into a spiral that swirls around him like a magical aura.

His power is expressed in his posture. The powerful musculature and the wide open mouth mark its leonine ferocity. Frozen in its movement, the muscular tension that emerges silently transcribes the lion’s roar.

This sculpture was made from scratch by hand before being molded and then drawn in polyurethane resin with a patinated aluminum paint.
