Red Bull Wololo II Medals 2020

These medals are made for the Red Bull Wololo II E-sport competition, based on the video game The Age of Empires 2.

For an anchoring in the spirit of the video game, we were inspired by jewelry from the Middle Ages.

We have chosen to inlay stained glass windows to highlight the imagery of this period.

For the design of the frame of the medals and the stained-glass windows around the logo, we redesigned the rinceaux: ornamental motifs made up of arabesques of foliage and flowers, mainly used in the decorative arts. Acanthus leaves and iris are the body of the design. The former, widely represented since antiquity, echo mythology. As for the others, they symbolize the royalty featured in the universe of this video game.

These medals also emphasize the warrior spirit of this game. Their heavy and cold metallic aspects can also refer to polearms or other bladed weapons of the Middle Ages.

The black patina, on the other hand, gives these objects the illusory appearance of a vestige of this bygone era.
